Volunteer
Founded in 1972 by a group of volunteers who recognized the need for affordable, accessible health care for those that need it most, Open Door has a long history of volunteers.
Volunteers at Open Door are an integral part of the Open Door culture. They represent the core values of Open Door. They are diverse, spanning a wide range in age, interest, and time commitment. What they all share is a generosity of spirit, the conviction that they can make a difference and a commitment to the community.
What motivates our volunteers is the personal contribution they make from meaningful work that contributes directly to their community. For more information on how you can make a difference contact Alicia Ward at (914) 502-1468 or email her at award@ood.org.

Healthy Children* Healthy Minds* Book Drive
Early childhood literacy is an essential part of a healthy childhood. Open Door Family Medical Centers has expanded its national literacy program, Reach Out and Read, to all of its four sites. Volunteers read aloud with young children, help them select a book to take home, chat with the parents about reading with their children and provide literacy information. The success of our program has led to the need for more board books and picture books for our youngest patients.
ALERT !
Please donate new or gently used books for children ages 6 months to 4 years old.

Reach Out and Read is a national literacy program geared towards children living in poverty and designed to take place in a medical environment. Literacy is another important focus at Open Door. Through the Reach Out and Read program, Pediatricians and Family Physicians distribute an age appropriate new book along with a demonstration of reading techniques at each well-child visit from 6 months to 5 years. Volunteers give out gently used books which have been donated and provide instructions on reading techniques to parents of children under the age of five in the waiting area. Please donate books or consider hosting a book drive. Every book counts! For more information, please click here Reach Out and Read.
